The objectives of this research are to know, analyze, and explain the symbolic meaning of the Ritual of Penusur Sira in Dokan society. The explanations of the symbolic meanings of Ritual of Penusur Sira are focused into 2 problems of study, they are (1) what are the symbolic meanings found in Ritual of Penusur Sira; (2) what are the values of local wisdom found in Ritual of Penusur Sira. Both of these problems of study use communication and semiotic theories. The Technique of data collection uses observation, deep interviews, and documentation study. The analysis method used is descriptive qualitative. This thesis offers three things as conclusions. First, the relationship between the Nini Sira and the Dokan society and the relationship between death and the living dimensions. Second, every word, thing, plant, and the ceremony of Penusur Sira has deep symbolic meaning consisted of prayers and hopes to be prayed to Dibata (the believed God). Symbolic meanings have the values of local wisdom and keep the relationship among the societies, the society with God, and the society with nature. Third, every Sangkep Nggeluh has an important role in running a ritual or the custom ceremony. Ethnic Karo society maintains the blood relations to decrease the workload with the Sangkep Nggeluh. This research shows that the interaction between local culture and global culture in Karo Ethnic society has marginalized the values of the local culture and created new perceptions. As a result, the Ritual of Penusur Sira in Karo Ethnic society in Dokan experiences the degradation of meaning even it is assumed as an unimportant thing.
