Hubungan Kecerdasan Emosional dengan Kemampuan Komunikasi Terapeutik Pada Perawat Rumah Sakit Adam Malik

Abstract

This study aims to look at the relationship between emotional intelligence with therapeutic communication skills in nurses Adam Malik Hospital Medan. The research approach used is a quantitative approach to the type of correlation research. The population of this research is the nurses of Adam Malik House Medan in Rindu A and Rindu B rooms, totaling 300 people. To determine the number of samples in this study using a purposive sampling technique where each member is given the same opportunity to be included in the sample while entering into the characteristics of 120 researchers. Data retrieval is done by using a scale of emotional intelligence and therapeutic communication. The validity test uses a content validity test in which a valid emotional intelligence scale item coefficient is obtained from rbt = 0.303 to rbt = 0.470 and therapeutic communication scale from rbt = 0.300 to rbt = 0.514 with a significant level or p> 0.300. The reliability test uses Alpha Croncbach which produces a reliability index of 0.736 for the emotional intelligence scale and 0.755 for the therapeutic communication scale. Total item correlation test is used to determine the relationship between the two variables namely emotional intelligence and therapeutic communication skills obtained through calculations with product moment correlation. The results of this study indicate a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and therapeutic communication among nurses at Adam Malik Hospital Medan. This is based on the results of r calculation of product moment correlation, where rxy = 0.507 with significant p = 0.05 <0.010 means that the hypothesis proposed is more positive emotional intelligence, the higher the therapeutic communication ability and vice versa the more negative emotional intelligence the lower the therapeutic communication ability. There is also an effective contribution of emotional intelligence affecting therapeutic communication skills by 25.7%
