Abstract: Car bumper is designed to protect the hook, trunk, fuel, exhaust, and cooling system as well as safety related equipment such as parking light, head light and rear lightdue to collisions at low speed. In this study, polymeric foam composite (PFC) reinforced TKKS fiber and coated by GFRP applied as an alternative material to manufacture the car front bumper of offroad type. The objection of this research is: (1) to obtain the distribution of stress on the car bumper surface using FEM-base computer simulation, (2) the maximum stress that occurs on the bumper, and (3) the possibility of the application of PFC material to manufacture the car bumper of offroad type. Primary data obtained from impact load of impact pendulum swing of concrete ball. Further modeling and simulation use the MSC Nastran software. The result obtained the stress distribution that occurs on the surface of car bumper from the direction of loading axis-X, Y, and Z. The maximum stress occurs in the loading direction of Y-axis. However, based on the overall data shows that the magnitude different of maximum stress at each direction was not significant. Based on the simulation results are also obtained that the PFC reinforced TKKS and coated by GFRP can be used as an alternative material to manufacture the car bumper of offroad type.
